India’s Coal production surges 5.73% to 928.95 MT in April 2024-February 2025 period

India’s coal sector has registered steady growth, with cumulative production reaching 928.95 million tonnes (MT) from April 2024 to February 2025, marking a 5.73% increase compared to 878.55 MT during the same period last year. Similarly, coal dispatch rose by 5.50%, reaching 929.41 MT, up from 880.92 MT in the previous year.

Captive and other coal-producing entities have significantly contributed to this growth. Their coal production stood at 173.58 MT, reflecting a 30.16% rise from 133.36 MT in the corresponding period last year. Meanwhile, coal dispatch from these entities surged 31.90% to 178.02 MT, compared to 134.96 MT last year.

The Ministry of Coal emphasized that this strong performance highlights India’s commitment to energy security and industrial growth. The government continues to drive infrastructure development and operational efficiencies to meet the rising demand efficiently, ensuring sustained momentum in the coming months.
