IndiGo to fly wide body Boeing 787-9 plane on Delhi-Bangkok route, set to announce flights to Europe mid-summer – Airlines/Aviation News

IndiGo is set to expand its international operations by deploying a leased wide-body Boeing 787-9 aircraft on the Delhi-Bangkok route starting March 1. This move is part of the airline’s strategy to meet the growing air traffic demand and strengthen its global footprint.

To temporarily boost its capacity, IndiGo has inducted the Boeing 787-9 from Norse Atlantic, ahead of the scheduled deliveries of its own long-range aircraft, including the A321 XLRs and wide-body A350s. The A321 XLRs are expected to join the fleet in the next financial year, while the A350s are slated for induction in 2027.

In an official statement released on Tuesday, IndiGo announced that the Boeing 787-9 will operate daily flights on the Delhi-Bangkok route. The aircraft will feature a total of 338 seats, comprising 56 IndiGoStretch seats offering extra legroom and 282 standard economy seats, ensuring a comfortable travel experience for passengers.

IndiGo’s Delhi-Bangkok flight schedule

IndiGo will operate daily flights on the Delhi-Bangkok route with flight number 6E 1053 departing from Delhi at 10:00 AM (local time) and arriving in Bangkok at 3:45 PM (local time). The return flight, 6E 1054, will depart from Bangkok at 5:45 PM (local time) and land in Delhi at 8:55 PM (local time).

IndiGo’s flights to Europe from mid-summer

Furthermore, IndiGo plans to deploy the aircraft on a European route as well starting “mid-summer.” While the airline currently doesn’t operate direct flights to any European destinations, expanding into the continent has been a long-term goal for the carrier.

“As India’s aviation sector undergoes rapid transformation to keep pace with unprecedented growth in demand for travel, IndiGo is well-positioned to lead this expansion. The early induction of our wide body aircraft marks a significant milestone in our journey. Starting between Delhi and Bangkok, we intend to shift to Europe from mid-Summer,” Indigo’s Chief Executive Officer Pieter Elbers said.

IndiGo’s expanding fleet

“IndiGo will continue exploring opportunities to contract additional aircraft,” the airline said, signaling its commitment to expanding its fleet to support its ambitious international expansion plans.

With a current fleet of over 400 aircraft and around 2,200 daily flights, IndiGo has been steadily increasing its international presence. The addition of the Boeing 787-9 is expected to enhance its long-haul capabilities and provide more options for travelers between India and Southeast Asia.
