Individuals should be inspired to involve themselves in classical music and yoga for leading a healthy life, founder of Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth (SPIC MACAY) Kiran Seth has said.
Delivering a talk on ‘Indian Knowledge Systems – their relevance for the youth’, the former professor of IIT- Delhi said, “classical music and yoga were two gifts of our ancestors for leading a healthy life.” It was very important to have a focused frame of mind to live a full life. Classical music and yoga were two important techniques that help people remain positive and healthy, he said.
“Very eminent scientists and doctors are greatly involved in classical music. It has got a creative and curative part. Similarly, yoga is not just a physical exercise. It is a technique to control the mind. The practice of yoga helps an individual to keep the mind focused and acts as a check on a wavering mind,” Mr. Kiran Seth said.
He also explained that the Indian knowledge system was more oriented towards taking measures to prevent one from getting sick. “Unfortunately, in our educational system, we are not told of these things. It is important for a person, especially children to practice something that helps to keep the mind in control,” Mr. Seth said.
