Invest more in talent, capacity building, PM tells India Inc – India News
“Capacity building and talent nurturing” are the founding stones of any country’s future and necessary for creating jobs, so all stakeholders should invest more in these sectors, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Wednesday.
“This is needed for the country’s economic success, and for any organisation’s progress as well,” Modi said, while addressing at a post-Budget webinar.
Modi termed the Budget for FY26 as “a blueprint of India’s future”. The vision of “investment in people” stands on three pillars — education, healthcare, and skill development, he noted.
Modi highlighted that India’s education system is undergoing transformation, and urged industry and educational institutes to work together. “Youth should get a platform for practical learning. For this to happen, all stakeholders will have to come together,” he said.
The Prime Minister also urged more and more companies to participate “at all scales” under the PM internship scheme to make it a success. He said that the government has given importance to skill development at par with the infrastructure sector.
On economy, he said that India is the fastest-growing major economy in the world and the nation’s GDP will soon reach $5 trillion level. Currently, India’s GDP is around $3.8 trillion. “According to the IMF (International Monetary Fund), India’s GDP has grown 66% within a decade (2015-2025),” noted Modi.
The Prime Minister further stated that the country’s urban population may touch 900 million by 2047, and hence there is a need for planned urbanisation.
The Budget had introduced a ₹1 lakh crore “urban challenge fund” to improve governance, infrastructure, and attract private investment in urban areas. He emphasized that Indian cities would gain global recognition for sustainable mobility, digital integration, and climate resilience, calling on the real estate and industrial sectors to spearhead urbanization growth.
On artificial intelligence (AI), he said that the government has allocated Rs 500 crore for AI-driven education and research in the budget, and added that India will set up a national Large Language Model (LLM) for development of AI capacity.
The Prime Minister underscored India’s thriving tourism sector, noting its potential to contribute up to 10% of GDP and generate millions of jobs. He announced plans to develop 50 tourist destinations, grant infrastructure status to hotels, and expand initiatives such as ‘Mudra Yojana’ for homestays, ‘Heal in India,’ and ‘Land of the Buddha’ to attract both domestic and international visitors.
In the healthcare sector, the Prime Minister announced the addition of 10,000 medical seats this year, with a goal of creating 75,000 new seats over the next five years. Modi also emphasized initiatives such as telemedicine expansion, daycare cancer centers, and digital healthcare infrastructure, stating that these efforts would not only enhance healthcare accessibility but also create employment opportunities.
