Iran’s FM arrives today amid Pak-India tensions
ISLAMABAD – Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi will undertake an official visit to Pakistan today. This high-level visit reflects the deep-rooted and strong relationship between Pakistan and the brotherly nation of Iran, spokesman of the Foreign Office said in a statement.
It also underscores the two countries’ shared commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation across all areas of mutual interest. The two sides will also exchange views on regional and global developments, the spokesman said. During the visit, Foreign Minister Araghchi will call on President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, DPM/FM Ishaq dar and Army Chief General Asim Munir at GHQ.
The Iranian Foreign Minister would hold formal talks at the Foreign Ministry with his counterpart Ishaq Dar.
Pakistan and Iran enjoy close bilateral relations rooted in shared history, culture, and religion. The visit of Foreign Minister Araghchi is expected to further strengthen the existing ties and enhance cooperation between the two countries.
Credible diplomatic sources told The Nation that the Iranian foreign minister is bringing a special message from Iranian spiritual leader Syed Ali Khamenei for Pakistani leadership on current standoff between Pakistan and India.
A diplomatic source said Iran would be offering its complete support to Pakistan in its standoff with India and would ask Islamabad what it need at the time of military strike threats from India.
Another source said the Iranian foreign minister would be doing mediation between Pakistan and India, as after consultations with Pakistani leadership he would be travelling to New Delhi this evening.
