Isiaka: Ogun sports commissioner hails SWAN for NYG, NSF coverage, seeks enhanced collaboration, development
The Commissioner for Sports, Ogun state sports ministry, Honourable Wasiu Isiaka, Thursday, showered praises on the Sports Writers Association Nigeria, for its coverage of the ongoing 9th National Youth Games (NYG), and the recently concluded National Sports Festival (NSF), held in the art and cultural city of Abeokuta.
Hon. Isiaka described SWAN’s coverage of the two national sports feasts as excellent and flawless.
He made this known during the SWAN convention held at the media center of the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba the Delta state capital, adding that the value of journalists in the growth of sports in Nigeria, cannot be overemphasised.
The commissioner further emphasised the need for SWAN to be recognised and rewarded for its unshaken and undeniable support towards projecting sports in the country.
He called on SWAN to support the Ogun state sports ministry under his focused and forward-looking leadership, as he transforms the home of art and cultural excellence, into the center of sports in Nigeria.
He stressed that the transformation is ongoing with the upgrade of the once hagged-looking MKO Abiola Stadium, into an ultramodern Sports Complex, which hosted the:
He further explained that with the support of the Governor of Ogun state, Prince Dapo Abiodun, more transformation is taking place.
Hon. Isiaka stated that sports development is the main focus of the sports ministry with resuscitation schools sports at the Gateway state.
He called on other states of the federation to watch for Team Ogun at the next NYG, as Ogun state sports ministry is nurturing a new set of champions to represent them come next year.
In the area of education and wellness of athletes, the Commissioner stressed that they are effectively fussing sports and academics as well as regular medical testing and check up for all athletes under their stable at the well equipped Federal Medical Centre Abeokuta.
