Italian Embassy of Kenya event in honor of Armani – News from Embassies
Italy’s ambassador to Kenya, Roberto Natali, hosted an evening yesterday at his residence in Nairobi to remember the recently deceased fashion designer Giorgio Armani. The event, organized by the Embassy of Italy in Kenya and its cultural office, the Italian Cultural Institute in Nairobi, was attended by Kenyan fashion personalities, industry entrepreneurs and local cultural figures.
Natali opened the evening by paying tribute to Armani and comparing him to the great explorers and inventors of the past, from Columbus and Vespucci to Meucci and Marconi. “He represented in the last century and in this one, the ability of a relatively small nation like ours to express genius and creativity recognized around the world,” said the diplomat, who also wanted to remember actress Claudia Cardinale, who passed away two days ago.
The event, which also showcased garments and images of Armani’s clothes, was attended by Nairobi Kenyatta University Design Department Head Jacqueline Kisato, who in her speech remarked on the importance of the Italian designer in the evolution of current fashion, and journalist and performer Freddie del Curatolo, who brought a short monologue on Giorgio Armani’s childhood and life.
