Italy Embassy, KCST celebrate ability to shape connections

KUWAIT: The Connect-IT exhibition, organized by the Embassy of Italy in Kuwait in collaboration with the Kuwait College of Science and Technology (KCST), celebrates Italy’s ability to shape connections – physical, cultural, and emotional – that define our shared world. Created under the scientific curatorship of Professor TulliaIori and the artistic guidance of SpazioTaverna, the exhibition invites visitors to explore the art and science behind the structures that bridge communities, landscapes and histories.

The exhibition is organized around five thematic capsules: landscape, cities, history, heritage and borders. Each capsule showcases how Italian infrastructure, both past and present, has risen to the challenge of blending functionality with aesthetic harmony. At the entrance of each capsule, writer Emanuele Trevi’s evocative texts weave a narrative that connects infrastructure to Italy’s cultural memory and its role as a bridge between history and modernity.

The works on display – photographed by Luca Campigotto – capture 25 groundbreaking projects realized in the past decade. From bridges to creative urban designs and expertly restored historical buildings, these projects illustrate the uniquely Italian approach: a regard for the environment, a humanistic sense of design, and a commitment to innovation.

Each capsule is further enhanced by immersive multimedia installations, including Gabriele Gianni’s video projections and Michelangelo Lupone’s custom soundscapes, resulting in a multisensory experience that heightens the emotional resonance of the works. The exhibition culminates in a sixth capsule, highlighting Italian companies’ contributions abroad. These projects demonstrate Italy’s ability to export its expertise, blending its heritage of craftsmanship and innovation with an international perspective.

At its core, Connect-IT reflects on the meaning of connection in a globalized world. It underscores the importance of infrastructure not only as a tool for economic growth but also as a medium for fostering dialogue between cultures, preserving historical legacies and imagining a sustainable future. The exhibition reminds us that Italy’s approach to infrastructure transcends technical achievements, offering a vision of architecture and engineering as expressions of creativity, humanism and national identity.
