‘It’s not rocket science’: Shadow Minister on affordability of housing and rent
Shadow Trade Minister Kevin Hogan says, “it’s not rocket science” that houses and renting have become unaffordable because of the “1.2 million that have come in over the last 3 years”.
“I mean we’ve had, well, it’s 1.2 million that have come in over the last 3 years – 1.8 million people modelled to come in over a 5 year period, and we haven’t built, Labor have not built, anywhere near the amount of homes to cater for that,” Mr Hogan said.
“So, what happens, it’s not rocket science, rents go up, and housing goes up.
“The other thing that we’ve done too, and we’ve announced as you know, is foreign nationals cannot be buying into the residential real estate market, which we think’s important, because a lot of people buy homes and aren’t necessarily living in them.”
