The popular ITV soaps have often been moved or axed from the schedule due to football matches, with next week no different.

Here’s what the changes are and which episodes the TV schedule shakeup affects.

Emmerdale and Coronation Street to see schedule change on ITV next week

Both soaps are being removed from the schedule on Friday, November 6, as Ireland face Argentina in the Nations Championship.

The rugby match will be shown from 7.15pm to 10.30pm, with kick-off at 8.10pm.

Mark Pougatch will present coverage of the opening match in the Northern Hemisphere leg of the tournament at Aviva Stadium.

Emmerdale normally airs from 8pm to 8.30pm, followed by Coronation Street from 8.30pm to 9pm.

Together, they form a weekday soap hour on ITV.

ITV has not confirmed when the two episodes will be shown instead.

They could be moved to the weekend, or viewers could see one fewer episode that week.

Schedule changes linked to sport have affected the soaps before, particularly when football matches have been broadcast.

Ireland’s autumn campaign follows wins over Australia and Japan and a loss to New Zealand in July.

Argentina lost to Scotland and England either side of a victory over Wales in the Southern Series.

Andy Farrell’s side will be aiming to begin its autumn campaign against the Pumas, who will travel to Dublin for the fixture.

Coronation Street star in new project away from ITV soap

In other Coronation Street news, star Ryan Prescott is trading the cobbles for the capital in a brand new film role.

Prescott, who plays Ryan Connor on the long-running ITV soap, is starring in the comedy-drama Waif, set in the heart of East London.

The film explores a world of skateparks, guitar shops, and art openings, and sees Prescott take on the role of Noah, a “drifting art curator” who is trying to make a life for himself.

Filming began in London in mid-October, and Prescott has already shared a glimpse of life on set.

The Corrie star posted a behind-the-scenes photo on Instagram, posing with writer-director Rocky Rodriguez Jr and actor Jason Flemyng, who plays Miles in the film.

In the post, Mr Prescott said: “We are rollllliiiing, first week into the WAIF shoot and loving it, thank you all for the amazing energy on set!”

Other photos from the shoot show him alongside Band of Brothers actor Dexter Fletcher, who plays Judge Rodney Bax QC.

The cast also includes newcomer Helen Foster as Clem, a “freewheeling single mum.”

According to the film’s synopsis, “with social services watching, this community of slackers must grow and not give in.”

No release date has yet been announced.

Mr Prescott remains a regular presence on Coronation Street, where he has played Ryan Connor since 2019.

He is the third actor to take on the role.

In 2023, his character briefly left the show after his affair with Daisy Midgley was exposed.

He later returned as part of a major storyline involving steroid addiction.

Recently, Ryan has been supporting Dylan Wilson (Liam McCheyne), who is struggling with guilt after a sexual encounter with Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin) led to her having a stroke.

Things look set to become even more complicated, however, after Ryan discovers a pregnancy test belonging to his love interest, Bethany Platt, played by Lucy Fallon.
