Jamshedpur’s Raj Srinivasan wins at Senior Fashion Pageant India

Life has taken full circle for steel city, Jamshedpur born and bred, Raj Srinivasan.

Jamshedpur: As a child, Raj, always dreamt to be a model, actor and singer. However, faced by the challenges of the typical middle-class families back in the nineties, he couldn’t explore his passion; instead focused on building his career in the corporate world.

However, more than three decades later, destiny eventually took him to the elusive stage of fashion and modeling, where he exhibited his latent potentials full throttle and came out with flying colours.

At the recently held, Senior Fashion Pageant India, a prestigious event celebrating individuals aged 55 and above, Raj clinched the 3rd Runner-Up title competing against contestants, most of them professionals, from various cities. Only finalist from Jharkhand, Raj stood out among 16 male and 20 female contestants nationwide.

The four-day event, organized by Peach Events and led by Rekha Desai, included grooming sessions by Shakir Shaikh, NAMG and competitive rounds judged by celebrities like Deepak Tijori, Alpana Buch & Sujata Mehta amongst others.

“I dedicate this title to all the small-town youth, who fail to realize dreams due to several pressing compulsions and unavoidable circumstances,” an ecstatic Raj said speaking to this correspondent from Chennai, where he is currently settled. His advice for people across ages dreaming to make it big in life is to stay positive and accept change, which is the only constant.

This former Regional Director at Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA), Regional Director at Indo-German Chamber of Commerce(IGCC) and 1st CEO & Mentor at National Institution for Quality & Reliability (NIQR) has had his share of major upheavals in life, but he always stood positive.

Raj’s life took a heart-wrenching turn when his wife, Dimple was diagnosed with cancer on their 25th wedding anniversary in 2020. Amid the global pandemic, he faced a personal battle, choosing to quit his job to care for his wife. Tragically, he lost both his wife and mother within just five months in 2023-24. With his son studying in Canada, Raj was devastated and alone.

However, amid this adversity, he found a new purpose in life–to pursue passions he had always harbored but never had the chance to explore—acting, modeling, and singing.

Raj has acted in a web series, Forever Buddies (MX Player), and a Tamil movie, Scene No. 62 (available on Amazon Prime). He has also appeared in TV commercials and is an active user of Smule, where he has sung over 800 songs. Additionally, Raj enjoys biking and staying fashionable and trendy

With over three decades of corporate leadership experience, Raj has also played a key role in bringing global investments like Hyundai and BMW to India. A globetrotter, who is always on the move due to professional engagements, Raj stresses that Jamshedpur always remains close to his heart.

“I was born and grew up in Tinplate area. My father, popular as S.S. Vasan, worked for Tinplate Company of India Ltd (TCIL) for 40 years till he superannuated in 1995. I went to St Mary’s English High School, Bistupur and completed my graduation from Ranchi University before I moved to Delhi in 1990 to work with ACMA,” said Raj.

Though settled in Chennai, Raj doesn’t miss any opportunity to visit Jamshedpur. He was here in March with his son to witness the Foundation Day grandeur.
