JK Tyre begins production of India’s first passenger car tyres with ISCC plus certified sustainable material, ET Auto

The UX Royale Green tyre is made with 80% sustainable, recycled, and renewable materials.
JK Tyre & Industries Ltd. has started production of its new ‘UX Royale Green’ passenger car tyre at its Chennai facility, using raw materials certified under the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC Plus) system. This marks the first time a passenger car tyre in India has been produced using such materials.

The ISCC Plus certification verifies the use of renewable, recycled and responsibly sourced inputs, providing traceability across the value chain. Materials used in the tyre include bio-attributed polymers, renewable oils, recycled rubber powder, recovered carbonaceous black, recycled polyester and steel wire.

Long-term R&D

Developed in August 2023, the UX Royale Green tyre is made with 80% sustainable, recycled, and renewable materials. The product is the result of over 10 years of research at JK Tyre’s Global Tech Centre, where teams have been working on alternatives to conventional petroleum-based components.

Dr. Raghupati Singhania, Chairman and Managing Director of JK Tyre & Industries, said, “The commencement of sustainable tyre production represents a defining step in JK Tyre’s journey toward environmentally responsible innovation. We are pleased to set new industry benchmarks that balance high performance with ecological responsibility. This milestone reflects our ongoing commitment to driving responsible mobility—anchored in green technology, circular economy principles, and the delivery of world-class, low-impact products.”

JK Tyre became the first tyre manufacturer globally to receive ISO 9001 certification across its operations in 1995. The company states that the development and production of the UX Royale Green tyre continue to adhere to its established standards of performance and quality.

The company views the ISCC Plus certification and production rollout as part of its broader efforts to align with circular economy principles in manufacturing.
