Join the AVGC-XR Revolution, ET Government

Following the vision of the government to give a boost to India’s digital technology sector, the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT), launched on May 3, 2025, has opened admissions for its batch of students in August. The new institute will concentrate on a range of courses focused on AVGC-XR industry, which comprises animation, visual effects, gaming, comics, and extended reality.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw had made the IICT announcement during the World Audio Visual Entertainment Summit (WAVES) in May 2025. The primary objective of the institute is to act as a specialised centre for skill development in the field of creative technology.

Course offerings and curriculum

Initially, IICT will offer 18 industry-oriented courses: six related to gaming, four related to post production, and eight related to animation, comics, and XR. These courses were created in consultation with industry veterans to ensure they are aligned with prevailing global standards and trends.

The institute has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of York in the United Kingdom to help foster faculty exchange programmes, research collaborations, and international certification pathways for students.

Furthermore, Google, YouTube, Adobe, Meta, Microsoft, NVIDIA, and JioStar are some of the big tech players that are partnering with IICT to support it. This support is through providing assistance with curriculum development, internships, scholarships, incubation projects, and placements for graduates.

Leadership and objectives

“Our dream is to position India as a global leader in AVGC-XR by developing world-class talent,” said Dr. Vishwas Deoskar, CEO of IICT, also announcing that additional information on the courses will be announced later this month.

Its leadership includes a prestigious Governing Board consisting of people like Sanjay Jaju, Vikas Kharge, Swati Mhase, Chandrajit Banerjee, Ashish Kulkarni, Manvendra Shukul, and Rajan Navani. The Governing Council members are Munjal Shroff, Chaitanya Chichlikar, Biren Ghose, Bhupendra Kainthola, and Gaurav Banerjee.
