Julia Garner’s Second Time in Florence Was Nothing Short of a Gucci Dream

Draped in a sculpted tweed micro dress, a soft cream bag in hand, her hair swept elegantly to the back, Julia Garner made her way to the front row at the Gucci cruise 2026 show. Laughter floated through the air as she chatted with her seatmates, Paul Mescal and French-Canadian actor and musician Aliocha Schneider.

This might have been only Garner’s second time in Florence, but the Emmy-winning actress is well acquainted with sitting front row at Gucci’s runway shows. As a longtime friend of the Italian luxury house and a Gucci Beauty ambassador, Garner personifies the modern Gucci woman—bold, confident, and stylishly daring. Just this past month, Garner starred in a new campaign featuring the House’s storied scarves (an essential part of Gucci’s history) entitled “Keep It Gucci: The Art of Silk.”

For this year’s cruise collection, Gucci transported its guests to Florence, its birthplace and the home of the Gucci Archive, which showcases the brand’s entire history starting in the 1920s. The setting allowed the brand to showcase a forward-looking collection that was still rooted in Gucci’s heritage. Ahead of the show, we caught up with Julia Garner about all things Gucci, her favorite memories in Florence, and more.

You’ve worked with Gucci on countless occasions. What have been some of your favorite projects?

I mean, they’re all so different! They do such a great job with changing things up but still managing to keep their identity. I have to say my favorite project that I’ve done with them is the scarf campaign. That was very special.

What was the first Gucci piece you ever owned?

I bought a pair of loafers. The more worn-down it looks, the better, especially with a loafer.

What do you find most exciting about attending a Gucci show in comparison to other shows?

I never know what they’re going to bring, but they have something all so unique about them and it’s such an event and such an experience.

What’s the first thing you do when you arrive in Florence?

I mean, you have to have some kind of Italian food. The gelato in Florence is exceptional, or just find any sort of Mortadella sandwich. We literally did that—we landed and then we all got a panini.

Do you have any personal memories from being in Florence?

I’ve been to Florence one other time and that was for holiday. You know, we did kind of similar things [last time]. We had some time during the day, so we all got a panini and went to the Uffizi gallery. That’s probably my favorite museum in the world. Their collection is so special.

Walk us through your getting-ready process for an event like this.

Well, normally I never have time [to get ready] because it’s usually during fashion week and it’s so crazy. You just kind of wake up and it’s in the morning when glam usually comes, but this time—since it was a cruise show—we had a whole day. It was really special that we got to walk around Florence and go to the museum. I always do multiple masks the night before, and if there’s a bathtub in the room, I always take a bath.

What are some beauty products that you can’t live without while traveling?

I always have my Augustinus Bader cream with me. Eyedrops are also very important because my eyes get very dry. And then I have my 111SKIN eye patches that I always travel with as well.

What is the glam you’re going for tonight to coordinate with your look?

I always like going a little easy on the glam, with the skin especially. I like a light touch to the makeup. I never want it to look like you can’t tell who it is. I don’t love that kind of makeup.

Can you describe your look for the show?

I wanted to go kind of ‘60s, but also something that you could kind of see Parker Posey wear in Party Girl. It was just such a fun look and I felt really good in it. It was honestly something that I would own!

How do you and your stylist, Elizabeth Saltzman, work together to create looks for the show that align with your personal style and the brand’s aesthetic?

It’s such a beautiful brand, so anybody’s going to find something that speaks to them. It’s not that hard because everything is so stunning. We just play around and that’s the fun thing about fashion and clothes–it’s a form of expression.
