Karl Urban’s Johnny Cage Gets an Explosive Faux Movie Trailer for Mortal Kombat 2

Mortal Kombat 2 is heading to theaters this year, but fans are still waiting for an official trailer. While the trailer for the film itself isn’t dropping until July 17, an early teaser has been released, showcasing newcomer Karl Urban in his role as the fan-favorite fighter Johnny Cage.

The new teaser is a fake trailer for Uncaged Fury, a fictional farm starring Johnny Cage. Reminiscent of action hits of the 1990s, the faux trailer might spark memories of Jean-Claude Van Damme and Steven Seagal films of the era. The video also touches on Cage’s other films, touting how the actor has also starred in Cool Hand Cage, Hard to Cage, and Rebel Without a Cage. Check out the teaser below, per IGN.

Mortal Kombat 2 Images Unveil Johnny Cage, Kitana & Shao Kahn

Official photos from Mortal Kombat 2 reveal clear looks at Johnny Cage, Kitana, and Shao Kahn.

One qualm that fans had with the previous Mortal Kombat film was the absence of Johnny Cage. The character has been very popular with fans since the very first Mortal Kombat title was released, so it was disappointing for some that he was not involved whatsoever. It’s clear that he’s going to be a major part of the sequel, which should help rectify that for the Cage fans.

Of course, there will be several other characters that fans will recognize from the games. Another fan favorite, Kitana, is making her debut with Adeline Rudolph in the role. Other newcomers include Martyn Ford as Shao Kahn, Desmond Chiam as King Jerrod, Ana Thu Nguyen as Queen Sindel, Tati Gabrielle as Jade, Damon Herriman as Quan Chi, and CJ Bloomfield as Baraka.

Mortal Kombat 2 Producer Teases the Sequel With New Set Photo

Producer of Mortal Kombat 2 has shared a brand new behind-the-scenes image as a teaser.

The sequel also brings back Lewis Tan as Cole Young, Ludi Lin as liu Kang, Josh Lawson as Kano, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Mehcad Brook as Jax Briggs, Tadanobu Asano as Lord Raiden, Joe Taslim as Bi-Han/Sub-Zero, and Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion.

Simon McQuoid directs the sequel with a screenplay by Jeremy Slater. Full plot details have not been revealed, but it’s been teased that a big tournament will be at the heart of the story. The previous film also drew some criticism for not having the tournament, as that’s the foundation of the video games. Adding more beloved characters, along with the tournament aspect, were moves to try and make the sequel more revered than the previous.

“I hope you guys are ready for the next one,” Ludi Lin told Screen Rant about the sequel last year. “We’ve been shooting this one forever, I’m back in Australia still shooting MK 2. I was here for almost a year last time. Yeah, it’s gonna be pretty immense, everything is going to be bigger.”

Mortal Kombat 2 will be released in movie theaters on Oct. 24, 2025.
