New Delhi: The 29th Kolkata International Film Festival kickstarted today (December 5). Reportedly, the festival will be screening at 23 venues across Kolkata including both government and private-run single-screen theatres and multiplexes. According to the official website of KIFF, the international film festival will be held in the beautiful city of Kolkata from December 5 – December 12. The description on the official website also stated, “Accredited by the International Federation of Film Producers’ Association or FIAPF in short, the 29th KIFF promises to be more exciting, appealing and satisfying to the cine lovers as they will continue to feel the charm of world-class cinema in the City of Joy.” The inauguration ceremony of the 29th edition of the Kolkata International Film Festival will be held at Netaji Indoor Stadium in Kolkata.

KIFF 2023 inauguration guest list

Reportedly, the Kolkata International Film Festival 2023 will be inaugurated by the Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday, December 5. Notable actors from the Hindi film industry all all set to grace the ceremony including Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, and Sonakshi Sinha.

According to a report by NDTV, actors Anil Kapoor and Kamal Haasan will be the Chief Guests while TMC MP and Actor Shatrughan Sinha, Sonakshi Sinha, cricketer Sourav Ganguly and filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt will also be present. The inaugural film for KIFF 2023 is Deya Neya, starring the veteran stars Uttam Kumar and Tanuja.

KIFF 2023 will be screening at 23 venues across the city of Kolkata. Reportedly, the film is open to everyone with a delegate card. The chairman of KIFF, Raj Chakraborty told TOI, “KIFF will send out daily passes to all the exhibitors. These will be distributed free of cost to cine lovers at the venues on the day of the screenings. There will be no system of advance bookings.”

As per TOI, the screenings will be held at 13 private single screens and four multiplex screens. Apart from Star Theatre, which is leased out by the government to a private player, the other private single-screen theatres are Prachi, Navina, Menoka, Ashoka, Ajanta, Minar, Bijoli and New Empire.

The first edition of the Kolkata International Film Festival started in the year 1995 and drew inspiration from legendary filmmakers Satyajit Ray, Ritwik Ghatak, Mrinal Sen and many more stalwarts of the Bengali film industry, who have contributed to world cinema. The festival has also earned international accolades since the very beginning but was somewhat confined to the more sophisticated and learned fraternity.
