About The Heifetz International Music Institute
The Heifetz International Music Institute is a non-profit organization dedicated to the artistic growth and career development of the most talented and promising young musicians in the world. The institute was founded in 1996 by renowned international concert violinist and teacher Daniel Heifetz. The Institute attracts the most prominent pedagogues and teaching artists from such major schools as Juilliard School, the Curtis Institute of Music, and the New England Conservatory. Students represent over ten counties, and come from the world’s top conservatories.
The Heifetz International Music Institute believes there are specific factors that distinguish a good performance from a great one, an emerging musician struggling to form their artistic identity from a complete performer who will establish a notable career. The Institute seeks to know, and to teach, what those factors are and how to achieve them. Through the innovative Performance & Communication Training method, the Institute leads musicians to convey the emotion of the music they’re performing, explore their full creative potential, express their individuality, and redefine the concert experience. As a summer program, the Institute is uniquely positioned to guide the students at this critical point in their development in a non- competitive, supportive environment outside of the trials of conservatories and competitions.
About the Summer Program
The Heifetz summer program is an immersive, intensive, and often transformative musical experience for students, built upon the Institute’s decades-long record of leadership and innovation in high-level musical instruction, Performance and Communication Training, practice analytics, personal coaching and mentoring, and industry-leading multimedia production. The Institute’s 2025 Summer Program is open to outstanding string players who generally range in age from 8 to 30. Successful applicants aged 14 or younger are generally assigned to the Junior Division, while those 15 and older are placed in the Senior Division.
Fourteen- and 15 year-old students may be considered for both Junior or Senior Divisions, with placement determined by the Artistic Director. Senior Division applicants may also apply to the Heifetz Chamber Music Seminar. Successful Chamber Music Seminar applicants will participate in all Senior Division and Chamber Music Seminar activities.
