The song’s explosive growth also caught the attention of major industry players. In January, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that Ball secured a lucrative record deal with Def Jam and Universal Music Group worth up to $13 million, with $8 million guaranteed.
The popularity of Tweaker only increased with the release of a remix featuring legendary rapper Lil Wayne. The collaboration helped push the song’s streaming numbers even higher. The week of February 7–13 saw a significant boost with 13.6 million streams, resulting in nearly 90,000 on-demand song units. Ball teased their upcoming music video on Instagram, simply captioning it, “Coming soon!” The announcement sent fans into a frenzy, which stirred immediate buzz on social media.
Ball’s journey hasn’t followed the expected path of a top basketball prospect. The 26-year-old spent years in the NBA G League trying to break into the main league and extend his basketball career, but he never quite found his footing in the league even after joining Charlotte Hornets for the 2022 NBA Summer League. However, his shift to music has proven to be a game-changer.
