Lindsay Lohan Says She “Can’t Do Netflix Movies Forever”
It feels safe to say that every single last Millennial on planet Earth is rooting for Lindsay Lohan‘s return to our screens. The actress, known for her iconic turns in films such as The Parent Trap, Mean Girls, Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen, and — of course — Freaky Friday, made a much-crowed-about return to acting in a series of Netflix romcoms in 2022 and 2024. And while the success of those led to her return to the big screen in the upcoming Freakier Friday, she does not plan to keep her career renaissance on Ted Sarandos’ streamer alone. True to form for a 38-year-old actor who’s been in the business since she was a single-digit-aged child, Lohan has loft ambitions for her future: and those plans don’t necessarily involve pleasing the Netflix algorithm gods.
In a new interview with Saturday Night Live star Chloe Fineman for Elle, Lohan explains why she “can’t do movies like these forever,” referring to the Netflix romantic comedies she fronted in her return to our hearts and screens, Falling for Christmas (2022), Irish Wish (2024), and Our Little Secret (2024). But before anyone raises an eyebrow, it’s important to note that Lohan was effusive in giving credit to Netflix for her newly minted resurgence. She also makes it clear that the Netflix deal was something she wanted and worked towards achieving.

Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan return for the ‘Freaky Friday’ sequel 22 years in the making.
As Elle framed it:
Chloe Fineman: Aside from doing a few things here and there, you got back into acting in what, the last four or five years? What has that transition been like?
Lindsay Lohan: It was really Netflix. And I was manifesting it. During COVID, I was like, ‘I want to work with Netflix.’ I kept writing it in my journal and saying it. And then that’s what happened. I was like, ‘Oh, it’d be nice to do three films with them, and then see where that goes. And then I definitely want to do my first feature back with Disney.’ So I manifested that, and I’m manifesting this movie now.
Lohan went on to praise the films for being endlessly watchable, noting that she “always want[ed] to make movies like that — things that make people happy and bring people together. I love making movies for that reason — for people to escape and find something that they can take into their own life and realize everything’s going to be okay.” And now that she’s done that, she knows the key to her continued success is to not rest on her laurels, but try something new. “But with Netflix,” she explained, “I was like, ‘Okay, now we need to be thinking about other stuff.’ I can’t do movies like these forever.”

Lindsay Lohan’s About To Star In Her First-Ever TV Show, And It’s A Drama
Up next for Lohan? Aside from this summer’s return to the big screen opposite Jamie Lee Curtis in Freakier Friday, Lohan is set to star as the lead in a new television series based on a novel by Sophie Stava, her first time ever starring in a TV show. Count My Lies, from Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger — who served as showrunners on NBC’s acclaimed family drama This Is Us — will also see Lohan taking on the role of executive producer, too, in yet another career first. The show is slated to air on Hulu.
The book publisher’s website calls the original novel “a read-in-one-night suspense thriller narrated by a compulsive liar whose little white lies allow her to enter into the life and comfort of a wealthy married couple who are harboring much darker secrets themselves.” The liar in question, Sloane Caraway, uses these lies to weasel her way in to the world of the extremely wealthy couple, Jay and Violet Lockhart. It is said that Lohan will play Violet Lockhart, in a story that promises many thrilling twists and turns — and more than a few liars and secrets.
