Live Music Takes Center Stage At Oakland’s Yalo-Ribbon Festival – The North Mississippi Herald

Live music takes center stage at Oakland’s fourth Yalo-Ribbon Festival on Saturday, May 3, in downtown Oakland along with DJ Bob Murphree. The festival hours change this year with a 3 p.m. opening. Live music starts at 4 p.m. Vendors, kids zone, food trucks and games start at 3 p.m. with the popular cake walk at 3:30 p.m.
Local country music favorites Steve McGregory and Jessey Higdon will start the afternoon music.
Local country music favorites Jessey Higdon and Steve McGregory lead off the afternoon’s live music. McGregory is well-known in Oakland as the pianist at Oakland Baptist Church. The two musicians have played together for years now and cover country plus fan favorites like Jimmy Buffet. McGregory has played on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry.
New to the Oakland stage this year is Tanner Mills, who plays country music ranging from the 90s to present day. Closing out the music will be the duo, Variety. They perform around the mid-south and receive great reviews.
Well-known local DJ Bob Murphree will keep the crowd entertained during the festival. Chairs may be set up for listening to the bands following the Cake Walk at 3:30 p.m. Live music is sponsored by the Ed and Becky Meek Foundation. No coolers.
Back again by popular demand is mechanical bull-riding. All ages enjoyed this fun activity when it was introduced to the Festival last year.
