Londyn Dior reflects on her early wrestling memories.
In the present day, Londyn Dior is dominating the independent scene as “The Diamond Princess.” Back in 2009, she was an 8-year-old dreaming of one day making it to a wrestling ring. During an interview with WrestleZone’s Ella Jay, Dior revealed that her dream of wrestling stemmed from a classic WWE WrestleMania match — The Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania 25.
When asked about how this match inspired her, Dior noted that the build and the in-ring action particularly captivated her. “You don’t really know what good and bad wrestling is [at eight years old]. You don’t know, but that match, just also the buildup, I was like so heavily invested in the buildup to that match. I didn’t want Undertaker to win, I wanted Shawn to win, so I was devastated when he lost. I don’t know, that match just moved me. It was just fantastic all around. And after that match, I literally was like, ‘I want to do this. I want to do this.’”
The following year, Undertaker and Michaels met on the grand stage once again, this time with Michaels’ career on the line. Like WrestleMania 25, Undertaker defeated Michaels with a Tombstone Piledriver, leaving Dior and other young fans in an emotional state.
“I cried when [Michaels] retired,” Dior recalled. “Was in shambles, I went to school sad. I was like, ‘No, this can’t be,’ and I did not want to watch Raw.”
Dior Loved The Bad Guys
Elsewhere in her early wrestling fandom, Dior found herself drawn to a number of heels in WWE, including Melina Perez and Michelle McCool, the latter of whom went on to marry The Undertaker.
“I always just loved the bad guys growing up,” she said. “[Melina] coming out with the paparazzi, her fur, and her gear just she just screams superstar. I just fell in love with her. Her and Mickie [James], I wanted to be them. I just love them. And the way Melina presented herself, she knew she was that girl. I just love the way young me looked up to that.”
“I feel like it’s between her and Michelle McCool [when it comes to the best heels],” she continued. “They are like tied. No one did mean girls better than them.”
