L’Oréal pays homage to Giorgio Armani, a longstanding fragrance partner

On Thursday, September 4, L’Oréal, the French beauty giant, paid tribute with deep sorrow to Italian fashion legend Giorgio Armani, who has passed away at 91.

A visionary couturier, Giorgio Armani has built an independent luxury empire, synonymous with timeless sophistication and understated elegance.

“Giorgio Armani was, without question, one of the greatest creators of the last hundred years,” said Jean-Paul Agon, Chairman, and Nicolas Hieronimus, CEO of L’Oréal Group. “He didn’t just conceive unique, original, and timeless fashion; he was also a formidable entrepreneur who built one of the most important couture and luxury houses known today. Beyond his brilliant, visionary mind, marked by flashes of creative genius and worldly intelligence, he was also a truly charming, and humorous individual. Together, we have built one of the most desirable beauty brands in the world. We are committed to upholding its legacy in line with the heritage of Mr. Armani.”

L’Oréal expressed its “sincerest condolences” to Signor Armani’s family, friends, and “all those fortunate enough to have worked alongside him,” saying that “his passing leaves an immense void in the world of fashion and beauty.”

Born on July 11, 1934, in Piacenza, northern Italy, to a modest Armenian family, Giorgio Armani began his career in 1964 when he joined Nino Cerruti’s fashion house to design a menswear line. He then opened his own fashion house in Milan in 1975, quickly rising it to the top of the global fashion industry.

Giorgio Armani joined forces with L’Oréal in the 1980s to develop his fragrance line. Acqua di Giò, launched in 1996 and created by renowned perfumer Alberto Morillas, achieved worldwide acclaim, becoming one of the best-selling men’s scents of all time. Subsequent successes included and My Way.
