Lost Digimon Movies Finally Return to U.S. After Nearly 20 Years

Though it’s still going strong in several mediums, the Digimon franchise is still most defined by its initial anime entries in the early 2000s. The nostalgia for this era is definitely strong, and thanks to one entertainment company, long-lost films in the franchise can finally be enjoyed once more.

Discotek Media is proudly set to release Digimon Movie Set 2, which features a trio of largely forgotten Digimon anime movies. These have been lost to time in the West, with the films last seen in the U.S. on TV several years ago. Now, fans can rewatch every exciting and nostalgic moment, including the TV spots that are sure to bring back all kinds of digimemories.

Announced earlier this month on the company’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, Discotek Media is releasing a new collection of Digimon anime movies. This follows the first Digimon Movie Set, which came out in December 2024 on Blu-ray. In this new trio of films, the contents of the collection are Digimon Adventure 02: Revenge of Diaboromon, Digimon Tamers: Battle of Adventurers and Digimon Tamers: Runaway Locomon. As many fans have noted over the years, these are incredibly rare finds, as the movies haven’t been available in the West for nearly two decades. In fact, Digimon Tamers: Runaway Locomon was last “available” in this region 20 years ago when it aired on the Jetix TV programming block. Thus, fans who want to see the whole story and enjoy every minute can finally add these pivotal pieces to their collections.

The Blu-ray set will have both the English and Japanese dubs of the films, adding an extra experience for those who’ve only ever heard the script performed in one language or the other. The original promotional and TV spots will also be included, making it really feel like viewers are back in the early 2000s. While the exact release date hasn’t been specified, the announcement did specify that the gap between this and the physical release would be shorter than the previous collection (around one year) that included movies pertaining to the original Digimon Adventure anime. Originally started as a digital pet gaming toy in 1997, Digimon is now almost 30 years old. The next anime entry is the upcoming DIGIMON BEATBREAK, which is scheduled to come out in October 2025 — 20 years after the initial Jetix airing of Runaway Locomon.
