Louisiana Senate to Vote on Bill Supporting Music Industry Jobs
The Recording Academy’s MusiCares Relief Fund exists to maintain movement within the music industry and keep musicians thriving.
The Louisiana State Senate is expected to vote this week on House Bill 653, legislation that seeks to extend and enhance tax incentives for the state’s music industry and maintain jobs.. Sponsored by Rep. Paula Davis (R-Baton Rouge), the bill is designed to boost job creation, retain local music talent and attract more sound recording projects to Louisiana.
The bill, which passed the Senate Revenue & Fiscal Affairs Committee unanimously on Sunday, proposes to extend the state’s Sound Recording/Quality Music Company incentive program through 2030. It also shifts the program’s administration from Louisiana Economic Development to the Office of the Lt. Governor, with both agencies publicly backing the measure.
Industry Support
The bill has the strong support of the Recording Academy, which launched its GRAMMY Advocacy® Louisiana initiative in 2021 to champion state-level policies that benefit music professionals.
“This bill helps position Louisiana as a premier destination for recording projects and supports full-time jobs in the music sector,” said a statement from Reid Wick, the Recording Academy’s local representative. “It’s about reversing the brain drain of music graduates and keeping our cultural economy thriving.”
Bill Highlights:
-
Extends current music industry tax incentives through 2030.
-
Enhances credits for recordings made by Louisiana residents.
-
Prioritizes job creation and retention in the local music economy.
-
Maintains the program’s $2.16 million annual cap.
