Lyco announces men’s volleyball as its 20th NCAA sport | News, Sports, Jobs

The Lycoming College athletic department will grow with the addition of men’s volleyball as a varsity sport, set to begin competition during the 2026-2027 academic year, according to the College’s director of athletics Mike Clark.

The establishment of a men’s volleyball program increases the number of NCAA sports at Lycoming to a total of 20. A national search for the program’s inaugural head coach is under way.

Both Lycoming College and University of Scranton are set to join other Landmark institutions for the spring 2027 men’s volleyball season, including Wilkes University, Elizabethtown College, Juniata College, and Drew University. With the Landmark meeting the NCAA Division III threshold of six teams required to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship, the conference will be eligible for an automatic berth in 2026-27.

“We are excited to launch this new program together with the Landmark Conference,” Clark said. “The program enhances our athletic offerings in a manner that will create some positive outcomes for many programs that call Lamade Gym home. We are confident that the men’s volleyball program will be a vital part of the Lycoming experience, providing valuable lessons in leadership, teamwork, and dedication.”

Lycoming launched a women’s volleyball program in 1988 that has since won 506 matches, reached four NCAA Championships — more than any other women’s program at Lycoming — and reached postseason play 18 times.

Men’s volleyball is the first sport to be added at Lycoming College since field hockey and baseball were jointly reinstated to the College’s varsity offerings in 2020 ahead of their first competition year in 2022-23.
