macOS 26 Update Will Be Apple’s Last Release For Intel-Powered Mac Users

Last Updated:June 10, 2025, 15:35 IST

MacBooks powered by Intel processors have lost relevance and support with Apple and the new macOS update will be its last release.

Apple has confirmed the bad news for those using the Intel-powered Macs

Intel-powered Macs have stopped selling in the market as Apple shifts focus to its M-series lineup and soon these aged models will officially lose support for the latest macOS updates from the company.

The macOS 26 version is available for all Mac devices, including the discontinued Intel-based MacBooks and iMac, but Apple has confirmed that macOS 27 version in 2026 will need you to upgrade to either of the M-series Macs available in the market. So, you have 12 months to decide about upgrading and ditching the Intel Mac by then.

End Of Intel Macs: What Should You Do?

Apple’s decision to end support for Intel Macs has been confirmed during the WWDC 2025 this week in California and informed the developers that you will need the M1 MacBook Air or later models to get the next macOS iteration for the new features.

But what does this mean for those still owning and using the Intel Macs? Apple is likely to continue offering security updates for the next few years to keep them protected but you can forget getting the new features and macOS versions for these devices in 12 months time.

Having said that, we have already seen the Intel Mac Air versions not able to run macOS 26 Tahoe version this year and more Intel models will be added to the list as we build up to the next WWDC edition in 2026.

macOS 26 Tahoe is the latest version from Apple that borrows the Liquid glass design and even features the Phone app for mirrored calling support. You also get new additions to Continuity that will work across live activities for apps and even let you take calls on the big screen. It also brings support for live translation during calls and FaceTime videos with your friends.

Apple has also confirmed that the AI-powered Siri is still not ready to be your personal assistant and work is going on behind the scenes to have it ready for next year.
