Madhya Pradesh Aims to Become India’s Leading Electric Vehicle Hub with New EV Policy, ETAuto

With existing battery manufacturing, assembly plants and supply chain networks, the state aims to position itself as an EV hub. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Monday said the state is ready to represent the future of electric vehicle (EV) transportation, becoming the first in India to roll out a dedicated EV policy. His comments came on the eve of World EV Day (September 9), observed globally to promote adoption of electric mobility, as per PTI.

Yadav emphasised that the state’s priority is to help India achieve its EV manufacturing targets under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s climate commitments. “Electric vehicles are the most effective solution to accelerate the reduction of carbon emissions with public cooperation. Soon the Electric Vehicle Promotion Board will be constituted in Madhya Pradesh,” he said in an official statement. The board will ensure inter-departmental coordination and resolve policy issues.

Madhya Pradesh EV Policy 2025
The Madhya Pradesh EV Policy 2025, implemented by the Urban Development and Housing Department, provides incentives including road tax and registration fee waivers, up to ₹10 lakh for charging stations, ₹5 lakh for battery swapping stations, and ₹25,000 for retrofitting two-, three- and four-wheelers. It also earmarks ₹2 crore for research, innovation and skill development.

Targets have been set for EV registrations by 2030: 40 per cent of two-wheelers, 80 per cent of three-wheelers, 15 per cent of four-wheelers and 40 per cent of buses. Cities such as Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Jabalpur and Ujjain will be developed as EV model hubs, while engineering colleges and ITIs will introduce EV-focused courses to build skilled manpower.

With existing battery manufacturing, assembly plants and supply chain networks, the state aims to position itself as an EV hub. The recent discovery of lithium reserves in India is expected to bolster domestic supply, and Yadav said Madhya Pradesh would be among the biggest beneficiaries.

Workshops and an Electric Auto Expo will be organised at MANIT, Bhopal, on Tuesday to raise awareness as part of World EV Day events.
