Maldives Sees 45,614 Tourists in First Nine Days of May 2025
The Maldives welcomed 45,614 tourists from May 1 to May 9, 2025, marking a significant 38.2% increase compared to the 32,996 visitors recorded during the same period in 2024, according to statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism. This surge underscores the Maldives’ continued appeal as a premier global tourism destination.
From January 1 to May 9, 2025, a total of 1,011,972 tourists visited the Maldives, reflecting a 9.4% rise compared to the 925,239 arrivals in the same period last year. The Ministry reported an average of 6,325 tourists arriving daily, with the majority opting for resort accommodations. Of the total visitors, 727,742 stayed at resorts, while 230,699 chose guesthouses.
China emerged as the leading source market in 2025, contributing 121,393 tourists, followed closely by Russia with 111,937 and the United Kingdom with 101,781. Other significant markets include Italy, Germany, India, France, the United States, Switzerland, and Australia, highlighting the diverse appeal of the Maldives to international travelers.
The Ministry oversees 1,208 licensed tourist facilities, of which 1,200 are currently operational. These include 175 resorts, 850 guesthouses, 159 safari vessels, and 16 hotels, offering a combined bed capacity of 63,969. The robust infrastructure supports the Maldives’ capacity to accommodate its growing number of visitors.
With over one million tourists recorded so far in 2025, the government aims to reach a target of 2.3 million tourist arrivals by the end of the year. The strong performance in the first five months signals a positive trajectory for achieving this goal and reinforces the Maldives’ position as a leading luxury and leisure destination.
