Man swaps ‘India’ T-shirt for New Zealand to celebrate new citizenship in viral video, sparks social media debate – WATCH – Trending News

Leaving one’s country is always an emotional journey, but for one Indian man in New Zealand, it became a viral spectacle.

A video titled “Man denounces Indian citizenship in hilarious fashion” has taken social media by storm, showing the man uniquely celebrating his new citizenship. The now-viral Instagram reel captures him confidently walking around in a blue T-shirt with “India” written across it. In a dramatic move, he removes it to reveal a New Zealand T-shirt underneath, as onlookers cheer and even officials smile at his theatrical display. With over two million views, the video has sparked widespread debate among Indian social media users.

Divided reactions online

The video has ignited a mix of emotions online. Some viewers understood and even empathised with his celebration. “Ten years ago, this would have made me mad. Now I understand why he’s celebrating,” wrote one user.

Others shared their own frustrations about challenges in India. A practising architect commented, “I’m facing an overwhelming amount of corruption on a daily basis, which is prompting me to consider leaving the country.” Another user humorously remarked, “The biggest achievement in India is leaving India.”

However, not everyone was amused by the man’s actions. Critics argued that his gesture disrespected his roots. One comment read, “Someone who can’t respect where they come from… I know Kiwis are lovely people, but the attitude here is wrong for both countries. Have respect for both.” Another sceptical user added, “And tell me that he will not celebrate Indian festivals after leaving India. He may leave India, but he will be Indian.”

Not everyone shares the enthusiasm

Interestingly, not all Indians who have moved to New Zealand share the same enthusiasm. A Reddit post from an Indian who grew up in New Zealand warned others against immigrating there. Calling the country “geographically isolated,” the user described it as a place that felt like living in a small town, disconnected from the rest of the world. He further compared it to India’s vibrant culture, full of bustling markets and endless festivals, suggesting that some might find New Zealand’s lifestyle dull in comparison.
