Maruti Suzuki expands solar capacity by 30MWp, aims 85% renewable energy share by FY31

Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has expanded its solar power capacity by 30MWp, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable energy practices. The company commissioned a 20MWp solar facility at its new Kharkhoda plant and added another 10MWp at its Manesar facility, increasing total solar capacity from 49MWp to 79MWp in the last year.

In alignment with Suzuki Motor Corporation’s Environment Vision 2050 and India’s push for renewable energy, MSIL has set a target of achieving 319MWp solar capacity by FY2030-31. The initiative will be backed by an investment of over Rs 925 crore. The company also aims to source 85% of its electricity from renewable sources by the same year.

Managing Director and CEO Hisashi Takeuchi emphasized that as production scales up to 4 million units, the company’s green energy share will rise in parallel, contributing positively to the environment and aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal #7.
