May 2025 – New Releases

Welcome to the Australian Art Music playlist! A monthly playlist of classical, jazz, experimental and electronic music focused on contemporary Australian composers, musicians and sound artists.

It’s strange to think we’re almost halfway through the year! April and May (so far) seem to be big months for new music releases with full albums or leading singles dropping in the past few weeks.

This month’s playlist features a real mix: from classical to jazz to electronic music, both Australian and overseas performers and labels, emerging composer and big hitters. There’s lots more to discover if any of these tracks take your fancy – do listen to the full albums (and check out their Bandcamp pages/websites)!

As supporters and listeners of local music and musicians, I think one of the best things we can do is shout from the rooftops! If someone’s work has really connected with you, share it with friends, post about it, drop them a nomination in ABC’s Classic 100… I challenge you to make a musician’s day today!

If you’re wanting more music to explore I’d always recommend the Australian Art Music Archive, with all 1,611 previously featured tracks (roughly 164 hours of music) and my 2024 community listening project: 1,000 Curious Ears – all 12 monthly editions of that series can be found here.

Until next month, may new discoveries become old favs,

-Cameron
