Gurugram Demolition Warning:Within​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌ a meeting of the Sewerage Management Cell (SMC) which was chaired by commissioner Pradeep Dahiya, it was revealed that the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has threatened with the dismantling of PG accommodations and commercial establishments found to be discharging the sewage into master drains or natural creeks without treating it.

Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya said, quoting the stern warning, “No resident or institution will be allowed to directly discharge untreated sewage water from their buildings into natural creeks or master drains.”

Gurugram is drowning in sanitation problems and its environment is suffering as a result. In several cases, raw sewage is being directly dumped into the main drains, from where the effluent is flowing into the natural channels the sources are polluted, disease risks are arising, and drainage systems are getting damaged.

The SMC has identified numerous spots in the city where there are illegal discharges, as per the data of MCG and evidence of which has been brought forward by them.

MCG’s initiative to break up the illegal sewer linkages and clamp down on those responsible for the pollution is not just about cleaning the city but a bigger goal of preventing future emergencies and water-logging before the monsoon season.

The MCG has taken measures which are illustrated very explicitly in the document they have created:

Identification: Gathering information on buildings discharging the waste from their sewage into the master drains and creeks illegally.

Disconnection: The termination of all such illegal hooking operations that are linked to the Leg-1, Leg-2 and Leg-3 of Badshapur drains shall be done within six months upon the determination of such cases.

Demolition Threat: In such a situation that the perpetrators on the premises of continued violation even after warnings, it is possible that they might face orders for the tearing down of their buildings.

Community Engagement: It is requested that the citizens volunteer their help by informing the violations of the ​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌SMC.
