MCL Hosts Historic Half Marathon to Mark 50 Years of Coal India

Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) successfully hosted the much-awaited Coal India Bhubaneswar Half Marathon today, celebrating the 50 glorious years of Coal India Limited.

The historic event took place at the iconic Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, with a total prize money of Rs 45.34 Lakhs, drawing over 5600 enthusiastic participants from various walks of life, including professional marathon runners, fitness enthusiasts, young and old from all across the country.

Smt. Pravati Parida, Deputy Chief Minister, Govt. of Odisha; Suresh Pujari, Revenue Minister; Suryabanshi Suraj, Minister of Sports & Youth Services, Govt. of Odisha; Pradip Purohit, MP Bargarh; Ashok Mohanty, MLA Pallahara; Agasti Behera, MLA Chhendipada; Pratap Chandra Pradhan, MLA Angul; Braja Kishore Pradhan, MLA Talcher; Manoj Ahuja IAS, Chief Secretary of Odisha; PM Prasad, Chairman Coal India, Uday Anant Kaole, CMD MCL; Functional Directors and CVOs from Coal India and MCL and Senior Officers from Various districts of Odisha were present on this occasion.

Olympian and Ace Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal was the ambassador of the event. She inspired the participants with her remarkable dedication to sports and the importance of fitness in life.

Participants showcased the spirit of unity and determination in the race featuring various categories, including the 21km Half Marathon, 10km Run, 5km and a Half Km Fun Run, making it competitive and fun for both seasoned athletes and newcomers. Many took part for the sport and to honor the milestone of Coal India’s and MCL’s remarkable contribution in ensuring the energy security of the nation. The event, organized in collaboration with the Department of Sports, Govt. of Odisha, was a huge success.

Lili Das from West Bengal and Prince Kumar from Uttar Pradesh stood as the overall winners of the Half Marathon in the female and male categories respectively. Deputy CM Smt. Parida, Event Ambassador, Saina Nehwal along with other dignitaries, gave away the prize money to the winners in different categories.

The event stands as a testament to Coal India’s legacy while promoting the importance of a healthy and active lifestyle. Coal India and MCL reaffirm their commitment to ensuring energy security to the nation while fostering fitness and well-being across the country.
