MD Singer To Share ‘Heartfelt’ Music With Audience At Howard County

CLARKSVILLE, MD — The Clarksville Commons will host a Silver Spring musician at a concert next month.

Singer-songwriter Eli Lev writes lyrics and melodies described as “heartfelt and earthy,” and offer his listeners snippets of the wisdom he’s gleaned throughout his life. His latest project, an EP titled Present Journey, has been inspired by his current phase of life as a self-proclaimed “middle-aged, full-time independent musician who is a mobile lifestyle pioneer and international touring artist.”

“I call my genre, Indie folk poptimism,” Lev told Patch. “I grew up listening to Bob Dylan, Cat Stevens, Joni Mitchell and Simon & Garfunkel, but got into grunge music in high school and electronic dance music in college. I also love jazz and hip-hop and ambient music, too.”

Considered a cross between The Avett Brothers and The Lumineers, Lev has opened for both Shooter Jennings and Lee DeWyze, performed at The Kennedy Center and 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C., and toured extensively within the U.S. as well as abroad in such locations as Spain, Israel, Australia, New Zealand and Andorra. He’s been performing professionally since 2017 and touring consistently since 2019.

“I enjoy touring a lot. It allows me to connect with people face-to-face and share my songs and stories in a meaningful way – and there’s something about a live performance that just cannot be replicated online. Even though I love live-streaming and building community online, live shows are really where it’s at for me,” Lev told Patch.

So far, the biggest accomplishment of Lev’s career has been playing at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., although knowing that his music makes a difference in people’s lives comes first.

“I’m very proud of the performance there. I think music is a way to bring us into ourselves into our bodies and also to connect with others. And my live shows are inclusive and participatory, so people like singing along or want to hear their favorite song covered, I can do that,” Lev said.

Lev’s work also has been recognized by more than just his fan base. He won best pop artist for the Wammie Awards in Washington, D.C., and earned second grand prize for his song Chasing Daylight in the Mid-Atlantic song contest. His album also one best country-Americana album at the 2019 Wammies, too.

“I think my lyrics have gotten more personal, and my songs have gotten more deeply spiritually, and I also feel like my message is more powerful than ever, especially with my new album, Past Lives,” Lev told Patch.

The Springbrook High School graduate said he can’t wait to take the stage in Columbia and share his talent and life message with Howard County residents.

“I have some new songs and new stories, and I’m always happy to connect with new audiences,” Lev said.
