Media, vested interests deliberately spreading false information on sales decline: Ola Electric – Bike News

Last month, Ola Electric renegotiated terms with Rosmerta Digital Services and Shimnit India to cut costs and streamline registrations.

Ola Electric and controversies seem to be two sides of the same coin. From sub-standard product and service quality to sharp decline in monthly sales, the company has been a subject of discussion, and quite often shown in a negative light.

The Bengaluru-based EV manufacturing startup was recently called out for a huge deficit between its sales reported for the month of February and the vehicle registered under the Vahan portal during the same period. The company is being accused of sharing highly inflated numbers with a reported volume of 25,000 units last month as opposed to Vahan registrations of only 8,651 units.

Ola Electric has now responded by releasing an official media statement on the same. The company says, “We have noted the false narratives being spread about our February 2025 sales data. Here are the facts: Our sales remain strong, and the temporary backlog in February was due to ongoing negotiations with our vendors responsible for vehicle registrations.”

Ola further adds that the backlog is being rapidly cleared, with daily registrations exceeding 50% of our three-month daily sales average. 40% of the February backlog has already been cleared, and the remaining will be fully resolved by the end of March 2025. According to Ola, this is a straightforward case of a temporary registration backlog.

Ola Electric lashes out at “vested interests”

The Bhavish Aggarwal-led company has come down heavily on certain media outlets and vested interests saying that they have deliberately misrepresented it as a regulatory issue through misinformation and smear campaigns that intensified after Ola Electric discontinued contracts with two nationwide vendors managing the registration process as part of its strategy to streamline operations and drive profitability.

Ola alleges that a coordinated effort has been made to create confusion and trigger unnecessary scrutiny. The company says that its focus lies on resolving the backlog efficiently and continuing to serve the customers with transparency and reliability.

Earlier, the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) had inquired about discrepancies between the company’s sales data and the registration data on the Vahan portal for February. Additionally, they requested clarification regarding news reports alleging that its stores were operating without trade certificates.
