In a statement on social media, Sarai said he was honoured to take on the new role. He thanked Prime Minister Carney and said he looks forward to working on Canada’s global development goals.
As Secretary of State for International Development, Sarai will help oversee Canada’s support to other countries. This includes humanitarian aid, education, health programs, and poverty reduction efforts worldwide.
The role is important as Canada looks to strengthen its global partnerships and help countries in crisis. Sarai is expected to work closely with the Minister of International Development and other global leaders.
Sarai was born and brought up in Canada. He is a lawyer by profession and has long been active in community service and local politics.

During his time in Parliament, he also worked on issues such as immigration, economic development, and public safety.
Sarai’s appointment is part of a larger cabinet shake-up. Prime Minister Carney has brought in new faces and created a smaller, more focused team to lead Canada into the next term.
Residents in Surrey say they’re proud to see local representation in Ottawa. They hope Sarai will bring Canada’s values of inclusion and compassion to the world stage.
