Shillong, Aug 19: Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K. Sangma on Tuesday inaugurated the newly established Computer Lab at Mawlai Presbyterian College, funded through the Chief Minister’s Development Fund (CMDF).
The facility, set up with an allocation of ₹10 lakh, is expected to enhance digital learning and provide students with access to modern technological resources.
In his address to the gathering, the Chief Minister noted that the requirement for computers had been raised during his previous visit to the college and expressed satisfaction that the request had now been fulfilled.
Sangma emphasized the importance of education as a priority sector for the government while also acknowledging the many challenges that continue to exist within the state’s education system.
Despite the complexities, he reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening institutions and improving access to quality education for all students.
The Chief Minister further assured continued support for Mawlai Presbyterian College by announcing assistance of ₹10 lakh for the ongoing construction of the college building.
He also extended a grant of ₹3 lakh to support the purchase of musical instruments, encouraging students to pursue extracurricular activities alongside their academic development.
He commended the college for its dedication to serving the youth and stressed the role of the church, society, and government in collectively supporting educational institutions.
The program was attended by members of the governing body, the principal, faculty, church elders, and students of the college, who welcomed the Chief Minister and expressed appreciation for the government’s initiatives in advancing education in Meghalaya.
