Mercedes-Benz GLB discontinued in India – Car News

Mercedes-Benz is currently developing the second-gen GLB which is expected to break covers in 2026.

Mercedes-Benz has the largest portfolio among the luxury car manufacturers in India that includes both combustion engines as well fully-electric models. The German marque often keeps making small changes to its lineup. The company has discontinued its entry-level seven-seat SUV– GLB – from the India lineup.

The GLB was brought to India as a fully-imported CBU from its plant in Mexico. Apparently Mercedes has sold every unit of the GLB allocated for the Indian market. Prices for the GLB in India ranged between Rs 63.80 lakh and 69.80 lakh (ex-showroom). This made the GLB the most affordable luxury SUV on sale, undercutting the likes of Land Rover Discovery Sport by a margin of Rs 1.60 to 7.60 lakh.

Launched in December 2022, the GLB wasn’t exactly a hot seller in India. However, Mercedes-Benz was always confident of its sales generated from the GLB. Mercedes continues to retail the fully-electric EQB in India which is available in two trims namely 250+ and 350 variants, priced at Rs 72.20 lakh and Rs 78.90 lakh (both ex-showroom), respectively.

Mercedes-Benz EQB: Powertrain

The EQB was offered in both petrol and diesel variants, with three variants available namely: 200 Progressive, 220d 4Matic and 220d AMG Line 4Matic. The 200 Progressive variant was powered by a 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 161 bhp and 250 Nm of peak torque, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that delivered power exclusively to the front wheels.

In contrast, the GLB 220d variants were equipped with a 2.0-litre diesel engine generating 190hp and 400Nm, mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox with all-wheel drive capability. Mercedes-Benz gave the GLB a mild facelift in 2023, which never came to India. While the features list grew, the most important update was the addition of 48V mild-hybrid petrol and diesel engine options.
