Michael B. Jordan’s Long-Gestating Remake of Acclaimed Film Gets Exciting Update After Sinners Success
With Sinners continuing to make bank at the box office, Amazon MGM Studios is finally moving ahead with its remake of The Thomas Crown Affair. Sinners star Michael B. Jordan has been attached to the reimagining of the Steve McQueen movie since 2016.
Per Deadline, Amazon MGM Studios has dated The Thomas Crown Affair remake for release in theaters and IMAX on March 5, 2027. At the time of writing, the only other movies set to come out that day are untitled features from Disney and Warner Bros./DC Studios. Amazon MGM’s fresh take on The Thomas Crown Affair comes more than two decades after its 1999 remake of McQueen’s original 1968 heist movie, which starred Pierce Brosnan and Reno Russo and made $124.3M worldwide off a $48M budget.

Sinners Director Explains Why Michael B. Jordan Movie Probably Won’t Have Sequel
Writer-director Ryan Coogler reveals why he doesn’t plan on making a sequel to his newest Michael B. Jordan-led horror movie Sinners.
While a sequel to Brosnan’s Thomas Crown Affair remake was in development in the late 2000s/early 2010s, MGM opted for a fresh start after Jordan approached the studio in 2016 with hopes of starring in a new remake. Drew Pearce wrote the script for the upcoming movie. A previous draft based on the original film was written by Wes Tooke and Justin Britt-Gibson. Plot details remain under wraps for Jordan’s take on the material. The previous movies focused on a rich playboy who steals art.
Sinners Keeps Breaking Horror Movie Records
Amazon MGM dating The Thomas Crown Affair comes as Jordan’s latest big screen endeavor, the Ryan Coogler original flick Sinners, is cleaning up at the box office. After becoming the first R-rated horror movie to earn an A on CinemaScore, Sinners has continued to break records for the horror genre. After topping the box office last weekend with $48 million, the period vampire movie is on track for a second robust weekend, where the only competition it will have is with the Ben Affleck-led sequel The Accountant 2.
