Microsoft unveils dragon copilot, AI voice assistant for healthcare, ET HealthWorld
New Delhi: Microsoft has unveiled Dragon Copilot, a groundbreaking AI voice assistant designed specifically for the healthcare industry. This innovative tool aims to streamline clinical workflows, reduce administrative burdens, and enhance patient care by leveraging advanced voice dictation and ambient listening capabilities.
Dragon Copilot combines the proven technologies of Dragon Medical One and DAX Copilot, both developed by Nuance, a company Microsoft acquired in 2021. The AI assistant can automatically create clinical documentation, perform medical information searches, and generate referral letters and after-visit summaries. It also supports multilingual ambient note creation and natural language dictation, making it a versatile tool for healthcare professionals.
Joe Petro, Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President of Health and Life Sciences Solutions and Platforms, emphasized the potential of AI to transform healthcare. “At Microsoft, we have long believed that AI has the incredible potential to free clinicians from much of the administrative burden in healthcare and enable them to refocus on taking care of patients,” Petro said.
Dragon Copilot is built on a secure, modern architecture and integrates seamlessly with electronic health records (EHRs) such as Epic. It offers a unified experience for clinicians, allowing them to dictate notes, automate tasks, and access relevant medical information from trusted sources like the CDC and FDA.
The AI assistant has already shown promising results in reducing clinician burnout and improving patient experiences. Surveys conducted by Microsoft revealed that clinicians using Dragon Copilot experienced less burnout, and 93% of patients reported a better overall experience.
Dragon Copilot will be available in the US and Canada starting in May, with plans to expand to other countries, including the UK, Netherlands, France, and Germany.
