After working on several Stephen King adaptations, Mike Flanagan is one of the king of horror’s favorite collaborators. After their recent adaptation, The Life of Chuck, enjoyed positive reviews but didn’t exactly become a commercial success, the duo has another project.
Flanagan is working on multiple King projects, including a television series for the Dark Tower series, as well as Carrie. The latter has been adapted several times before, and now Flanagan is turning it into a limited series. In a new update on his Instagram account, Flanagan confirmed Carrie has wrapped production.
The announcement featured a bloody set chair, which had the filmmaker’s name, as well as a series of autographs from the star-studded cast.
In the caption, Flanagan wrote, “Our last day of filming on CARRIE.”
He continued, “This has been one of the best experiences of my career, one of the very best ensembles I’ve ever worked with, and already one of my favorite projects ever. Cannot wait for you guys to see what we made.”
Flanagan premiered his latest King adaptation, The Life of Chuck, at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival, where it received rave reviews. The film was later acquired by Neon, which sent it to theaters this summer, for an underwhelming run, despite the critical acclaim. However, Flanagan announced his new adaptation of Carrie in October 2024. King’s debut novel has been adapted three times before, the 1976 adaptation marking the first of many to come.
The 1976 adaptation is widely regarded as one of the best horror films of all time, and sits at the top of the critics’ choice on Rotten Tomatoes, with a Certified Fresh 94% rating. Carrie further received a panned sequel, Carrie: The Rage, and a 2002 television movie, and a new remake in 2013 starring Chloë Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore.
