Minister Saifullah Yusuf says Sekolah Rakyat breaks cycle of poverty
Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf has called on his ministry to strengthen efforts to deliver tangible community benefits through the government’s Sekolah Rakyat (People’s School) program as it is a key initiative aimed at breaking the cycle of poverty.
The tuition-free school schemeis part of the Indonesian government’s priority programs and is being promoted to mark the 80th anniversary of Independence Day.
Speaking at the 80th Independence Day celebration, held on Friday at the ministry’s Sekolah Rakyat Park, he described the program as a critical tool to eradicate poverty and emphasized the need for stronger collaboration within the ministry.

President Prabowo has provided clear instructions to the team, including the Ministry of Social Affairs, to effectively implement the Sekolah Rakyat program, particularly for poverty alleviation, Yusuf said.
“Sekolah Rakyat is one of the instruments to break the chain of poverty,” he said while expressing appreciation for those having supported the government’s social welfare agenda under President Prabowo.
The event featured a flash mob by the ministry’s employees in traditional costumes from across Indonesia, including Java, Sumatra, Sulawesi and Papua, celebrating cultural diversity and national unity.
The crowd also joined in singing patriotic songs such as “Independence Day, August 17, 1945” and “Garuda Pancasila”.
Looking ahead, Yusuf said he wants the ministry’s performance in the future to be more impactful, especially in improving social welfare.
