Missouri athletics hosts former athletes for alumni game | Sports

MIZZOU ARENA — University of Missouri athletics welcomed back some notable alumni for Saturday’s Alumni Game.

Players returned to Columbia to play in the Bowers vs. Carroll Alumni Game. Former Mizzou stars from the basketball court and the football field made up the rosters.

A $10 donation was requested as an admission charge for fans. The donations went towards the United Community Builders, E3 Sports Foundation and the Carroll Family Foundation.

Players signed autographs for fans in attendance before the game.

Team Bowers was led by Laurence Bowers, who played basketball for the Tigers from 2008-2013. While at Missouri, Bowers helped lead the Tigers to the NCAA tournament every season.

Notable Team Bowers players include the former All-American football player Jeremy Maclin and the 1991 NBA sixth overall draft pick Doug Smith.

Team Carroll was led by DeMarre Carroll, who played basketball at Missouri from 2006-2008. Caroll was named the 2008 Big 12 Newcomer of the Year and was nicknamed “the Junkyard Dog” because of his toughness and relentless play.

Team Carroll also featured Missouri football alumnus and current special teams assistant Brock Olivo. More recent Missouri basketball alumni, Tre Gomillion and D’Moi Hodge, were also on the roster.

Mizzou basketball sensation and current Los Angeles Clippers guard Kobe Brown was in attendance for Team Carroll but did not see any action.

Team Bowers led at the end of the first quarter, but Hodge’s sharp shooting helped Team Carroll lead for most of the game.

Despite Bowers taking the lead with a few minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, Team Carroll prevailed 106-105.
