Mohanlal-Shobana’s film quietly completes censor formalities amid Empuraan release buzz

Even as Mohanlal’s Empuraan is generating all the buzz online with its record-breaking pre-sales, another film of the Malayalam superstar has quietly completed the censorship formalities. If you haven’t already guessed, it is Thudarum, Mohanlal’s film that was supposed to release in theatres in January 2025 but got postponed. The Tharun Moorthy directorial has finally been censored, as per reports online. Read on to know the runtime, plot and other details of Thudarum.

Mohanlal’s Thudarum censored

Mohanlal joined hands with Tharun Moorthy for Thudarum, which also stars Shobana in a pivotal role. According to latest updates, Thudarum has been certified UA (16+) by the Censor Board. The runtime of Thudarum was also revealed to be 166.18 minutes, as per the censor certificate shared online.

Earlier reports had said that Thudarum, which reunites Mohanlal and Shobana onscreen after a hiatus, would release on January 30, 2025. However, the film got postponed with the OTT deal rumoured to be the reason for the delay. Even as fans waited for Mohanlal’s 360th film, there was no official update from the makers.

Now with the film finally completing the censor formalities, fans can hope to see Thudarum in theatres without much delay.

Thudarum to follow Empuraan?

Mohanlal’s big upcoming release is certainly L2 Empuraan, which has taken the internet by storm after it registered unprecedented pre-sales. The Prithviraj Sukumaran directorial will release in theatres worldwide on March 27, 2025. Empuraan is now set for a splendid start at the box office and if Mohanlal’s thriller garners a good response in the initial days, it would be able to recreate the success of the 2019 hit film Lucifer.

The release date of Thudarum is yet to be announced. However, some reports claim that the film is likely to release in May 2025 after Empuraan has completed its theatrical run. Set in Ranni town, Thudarum will narrate the tale of taxi driver Shanmugham who is very fond of his ambassador car.
