Move over ADAS: Here are the top 5 features Indian car buyers really want – Car News
Park+ Research Labs revealed insights from a recent study involving 3,000 car owners in Delhi NCR, Mumbai, and Bangalore, examining their preferences for a single mandatory feature in all new cars, reflecting shifting attitudes toward vehicle essentials.
A survey report revealed that Indian car buyers don’t desperately want to equip their vehicles with state-of-the-art Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) suite. What will knock the socks out of you is that six airbag safety features do not top the list. Can you guess what just under 50% of urban car owners think is a must-have feature? Believe it or not, it’s front and rear dashcams. We are quite sure, you would not have been able to guess the correct answer.
Park+ Research Labs surveyed 3,000 car owners in Delhi NCR, Mumbai, and Bangalore to explore the changing perspectives of car owners on the one feature they think should be mandatory in all new cars.
Front & Back Dashcams
According to a Park+ survey, nearly 48% of respondents identified front and rear dashcams as the top feature they want to be mandated in all new vehicles, outranking even airbags and 5-star crash ratings. This shift highlights how urban drivers, faced with increasing road rage incidents, hit-and-run cases, and complicated insurance claims, are now prioritizing smart, tech-enabled solutions that offer real-time accountability and evidence on the road. Rather than relying solely on passive safety measures, car owners are now demanding features that actively support transparency, security, and peace of mind in everyday driving situations.
5-star BNCAP Rating
The Bharat NCAP 5-star rating is viewed by customers as a hallmark of superior crash protection. This is the reason 32% of respondents ranked Bharat NCAP 5-star ratings as their preferred safety requirement. While structural safety still matters, it’s no longer seen as a differentiator, but as a given standard in new cars. The Bharat NCAP ratings reflect a vehicle’s performance in ensuring adult and child occupant safety, enhancing buyer trust in top-tier safety standards.
6 Airbags
This was a bit surprising that only 10% of respondents chose six airbags. The good news is that most leading automobile manufacturers like Maruti Suzuki have made six airbags as a standard safety feature on most cars. This is a great move for the customers as this feature is available in the affordable range.
All disc brakes
The recent study showed that only 8% of Indian car buyers have opted for all-disc brakes, despite the significant safety and performance benefits they offer. All-disc brakes provide superior stopping power, efficient heat dissipation, and shorter braking distances.
Others
Only 2% of buyers prioritized features beyond key safety aspects, highlighting a strong consumer preference for protection and practicality in vehicles, per recent surveys.
