These strategic collaborations by Mukesh Ambani’s Jio and Sunil Mittal’s Airtel may reshape the telecom landscape in India.
India’s top mobile operators, Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel, are leveraging partnerships with global tech giants to integrate generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) into their operations. These collaborations are mainly done to enhance network efficiency, improve customer experiences, and find new monetization opportunities in different industries like healthcare, geospatial mapping, and education.
Airtel’s AI Initiatives With Google
Bharti Airtel has partnered with Google to co-develop AI-driven solutions combining the strengths of connectivity and AI technology. The partnership focuses on:
Geospatial Mapping: With the help of location intelligence it will give precise solutions.
Voice Analytics: AI trained across multiple languages to enhance voice-based services.
High-Precision Ads: Delivering targeted marketing solutions.
Airtel is also utilizing AI for Anti-spam measures, data mining for optimizing site installations and for predictive analytics for proactive network management and self-healing. and also for green 5G initiatives to reduce energy consumption and enhance sustainability.
“Airtel’s collaboration with Google is geared towards accelerating the deployment of GenAI across India, leveraging its vast data sets to train AI/ML (machine learning) models,” Airtel stated.
Jio’s Advanced AI Vision
Reliance Jio, through its telecom and digital arm Jio Platforms, is working with Nvidia to create AI language models for diverse applications in sectors like retail, agriculture, healthcare, and education.
Key Features:
Jio Brain: A full-stack enterprise suite offering AI-as-a-service and ML-as-a-service to businesses. Users can access AI tools without the need for expensive infrastructure.
AI Data Centre: Jio is developing a 1GW AI data centre in Jamnagar to serve both in-house needs and commercial projects, offering GPU-as-a-service for advanced AI deployments.
Proactive Network Monitoring: Using AI, Jio monitors its network covering 95% of India’s population, predicting and addressing issues before they affect customers.
Aakash Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Jio, highlighted the company’s commitment to AI integration, revealing a 1,000-strong team of data scientists and engineers driving innovation across its functions. “We’re working towards launching Jio Brain in the coming quarters as we perfect use cases for enterprises,” he said.
