Mumbai/Delhi: Passengers at two of India’s busiest airports faced a frustrating Saturday as a combination of a technical snag in Mumbai and heavy rain in Delhi led to widespread flight delays.
In Mumbai, a third-party data network outage at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport disrupted check-in systems and delayed departures across multiple airlines, including Air India. The airline confirmed the glitch has now been fixed, but warned that some delays may linger as operations gradually return to normal. “Passengers are advised to keep checking their flight status for updates,” Air India posted on X.
Heavy Rain Havoc At Delhi Airport
While Mumbai dealt with its network woes, Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, the country’s busiest, was battling the weather. Over 300 flights were delayed on Saturday after heavy rain lashed the city, though officials confirmed there were no diversions. The India Meteorological Department had initially issued a red alert for intense rainfall accompanied by lightning and thunderstorms in parts of Delhi, later downgrading it to a yellow alert.
In the 24 hours ending 8:30 am, Safdarjung recorded 78.7 mm of rain. Pragati Maidan saw 100 mm, Lodhi Road 80 mm, Pusa 69 mm, and Palam 31.8 mm. The downpour not only slowed air traffic but also caused waterlogging and traffic snarls across the capital.
With the monsoon in full swing and technical glitches adding to travellers’ woes, passengers are advised to plan extra time for their journeys and monitor real-time flight updates.
