Music Generation Wexford invites young people to explore their talents in new ‘vibrant’ programmes
The programmes are designed to introduce young people to music in a fun, relaxed environment.
Music Generation Wexford is launching two new programmes designed to inspire young people to “explore and develop” their musical talents. Its newest initiative, Selskar Sounds Music Hub, kicks off on May 8 and will run until May 29 at Selskar College. This programme will provide small group music lessons for children and young people, creating a “vibrant and supportive environment” for musical exploration, creation, jamming, and performance.
It aims to introduce young musicians to a wide variety of genres, including rock & pop, blues, jazz, folk, world music, and classical. Participants will have the opportunity to learn a range of instruments, including guitars, ukuleles, keyboards, drums, vocals, brass instruments (trumpets, French horns, trombones, tubas), woodwinds (clarinet, saxophone, flute, bassoon), and more.
The Selskar Sounds Music Hub will be led by an expert team of musicians and educators and will run every Thursday (May 8-29) from 4-8 p.m.
For those with younger children, Macky Music is a new early years music programme for those aged 0–5. Previously known as Mini Maestros, this ten-week programme aims to nurture creativity, confidence, and connection through the joy of music.
Led by experienced musician educators Aileen Donohoe and Pete McCamley, it runs from April 30 to July 2 with ten 45-minute workshops taking place in the Westgate Music Rehearsal Space. Through fun and inclusive themed sessions, young children will explore the building blocks of music in a warm, welcoming environment that encourages self-expression and shared discovery.
