Music is the World! – Scandasia

For the first time in Bangkok, the famous annual “Fete de la Musique” or “World Music Day” was celebrated on Saturday June 14th 2025. This music festival is celebrated on June 21st (the summer solstice) in France every year.

It was founded in 1982 by the French Ministry of Culture and the purpose is to promote music in two ways: Encourage amateur and professional musicians to perform in the streets and to organize concerts covering all kinds of music, and for free.

It says, that this festival is celebrated in over 100 countries today and now Thailand is one of them.
The Music Day in Bangkok is organized at the initiative of the French Embassy, Alliance Francaise, and One Bangkok.

The festival had already started in the morning with various performances. I joined in the afternoon, together with some music-loving friends at Alliance Francaise, where we began by listening to children and youth, along with their teachers, from OMRI Music Studio.

Watching young children master the violin and cello is a remarkable experience.

After the school’s performance, a good friend of us-  the French-born composer and pianist Frank Herrgott – took over the stage.

He performed his own compositions for 45 minutes. In the background, paintings were displayed on a screen for each piece-all of them painted by Maestro Frank himself.

After the breathtaking piano recital, we went to the Restaurant Bonjour Bonsoir on the ground floor for some wine and snacks.

After our break, we took the shuttle bus to One Bangkok, a short trip. This business complex offered all kinds of music in every corner, both indoors and outdoors.

On the stages at One Bangkok, both Thai and international artists from France and Senegal performed.
One band that made a strong impression on us was KIKI – young, dynamic, and very likeable. We even had the luck and pleasure of chatting with the band’s vocalist, their producer, and their manager after the performance – all of them incredibly humble and grateful for the praise we gave them.

Some of the other performers were Paradise Bangkok Molam International, Afrodream, Mahidol Brass Band, Armani, Babyscash and Justin Mills, just to mention a few of them.

This was an all over family-friendly event with many highlights. This is a unique Fete, that brings people of all generations and nationalities together.

Bangkok World Music Day 2025 not only aimed to bring music to the streets, but to build bridges between cultures. The atmosphere was lively, and everywhere people were dancing or standing in line, clapping along to the rhythm while waiting for some tasty to eat or drink from one of the many food and beverage stalls.

Let us hope that this vibrant, fun, easy going festival will become a tradition in Bangkok, so stay tuned and look out for it next June 2026.
