Music Publishers’ Association of Iceland joins ICMP | Publishing

The International Confederation of Music Publishers (ICMP) has welcomed its latest national trade association to its global membership.

The Music Publishers’ Association of Iceland becomes the 80th national group among ICMP’s network.

ICMP works to defend the rights of music publishing companies and their songwriter and composer partners. – spanning the majors and indies – represent the rights behind approximately 90% of the world’s commercially released music. 

The organisation recently issued its first ever economic report on key international music publishing markets.

Inga Magnes Weisshappel (pictured), MPA Iceland and Wise Music Group publishing manager, said: “As members of the newly formed Icelandic MPA, Wise Music Iceland are honoured to have been invited to join the ICMP family. We look forward to working and communicating with our colleagues around the world to learn more about systems and structures in other territories and also to offer our input on the key opportunities and challenges facing the international music publishing industry.”

John Phelan, ICMP director general, said: “From Kiasmos to Björk, Sigur Rós to Víkingur Ólafssun, Hildur Gudnadóttir to HÖH, Iceland has an outsized impact on international music. We’re delighted to bring this latest national industry association aboard at ICMP. We will support the music publishing industry there and ensure it thrives via our global network.”
